The Blog
I’ve always wondered what it would be like to live as a hunter-gatherer. For 95% of human history, humans lived that way — and it profoundly shaped who we are. Yet our modern lifestyle couldn’t be more different, and much of that ancient knowledge has faded from memory.
This blog is my attempt to reconnect with that past. Fueled by a love of the outdoors and a curiosity for adventure, it has led me through survival courses, bushcraft projects, and wilderness treks.
Here you’ll find some of the wilderness skills I’ve learned along the way and stories from my outdoor adventures. I hope they inspire you to discover your own inner caveman, reconnect with nature, or simply enjoy being outside a little more.
Me
I’m Marc Smeehuijzen (born 1972), a Dutch guy from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I studied Medical Information Science and Psychology, and I’ve been working as a User Experience Designer — creating websites and apps that are easy to use.
Alongside my work, I’ve dabbled in science writing and a range of hobby projects. I once played ultimate frisbee across Europe and still enjoy a wide variety of sports.
