Ski touring in Pirin National Park, Bulgaria

From January to March 2026, I spent my third winter in Bansko, Bulgaria, combining skiing with some remote work. This mountain town in southwestern Bulgaria is home to the country’s largest ski resort and is also a well-known base for digital nomads.

Alongside resort skiing, I did ten ski tours in the surrounding Pirin National Park. Some I did alone or with Kiwi Mark, a New Zealander living in Bansko. Others were guided by Pavel Peev and his colleagues from Split The Mountain, and one by Milena Padalska of Free Mountains.

Total touring distance: 141 km.
