Offence

Short stack close to the handlers - We like to play with a short stack close to the handlers. Why? Because then we have much cutting space going deep (green area) and there can be a deep threat on every throw. (It also means one of us should be cutting deep after almost every throw - and cut back if the disc isn't thrown).
Long stack far from the handlers - We don't want a long stack far away from the handlers because then the handlers need to throw a huge huck to reach the deepest player in the stack which is difficult. In addition there are defenders all over the place to intercept any deep throw.

High disc

Sometimes there is a high disc floating around (often after a bad throw). If you are anywhere near the disc - whether you are on offence or defense - forget about your opponent and go for it! Even if a team mate is closer to the disc, you should still run over and try to help. You might be able to shield him from his defender or catch the disc if he misses.

Defence

Standard defense positioning - This is how we normally position ourselves on a standard one-sided defense.
Smart positioning - However, because we know where our opponents want to cut, we can position ourselves even better and stand in their way. For example, chances are high that the first or the second person in the stack wants to cut towards the disc on the open side and the last person in the stack wants to cut deep on the open side. Let's try to stop that by blocking their path.

Marking

Defending the person with the disc is called marking. It's a crucial element of defense. If you're marking during a one-sided defense, you're shutting down half the field, making it much easier for your team mates to defend their person. Two tips on marking:

  1. Stand on the correct side at about 90 degrees. Don't worry about your opponent throwing forwards or backwards too much. You're there to stop the throw to the side.
  2. Be active: stand on your tows, move where your opponent pivots, move your arms and legs (leg-blocks are allowed!), count out loud to ten.
