Basic Strategy

Offence

O = offensive player
| = defensive player

Stack - Our basic play for offence is the stack. Five players line up not too far from the player with the disc and try to get open. One player stands to the side of the disc-possessor and is the dump in case nobody in the stack gets open in time. (In this example the defensive team has a bomen-side defense which means they force the disc towards the bomen-side).
Cutting 1 - To get open, one person in the stack makes a cut by sprinting deep and then suddenly turning back to receive the disc, or the other way around (see next picture). The cut is made on the "open side" (bomen-side in this case) which is the area where the disc-possessor can easily throw.
Cutting 2 - Sprinting towards the disc and then suddenly turning and sprinting deep.
Cutting 3 - When the stall count is at four or five and the disc-possessor hasn't been able to reach anybody in the stack yet, he will throw the disc to the dump. The dump can either cut forwards or backwards to get open. After the dump gets the disc, the stack repositions itself and the same cuts are made. (The disc-possessor and the dump are called the handlers).

Some general remarks about cutting:

Defense

For the time being we will practice defense by forcing the other team to one side of the field.

Bomen-defense - The person who is defending the player with the disc (called the marker) is facing the bomen-side. This way he forces the disc towards the bomen-side. All the other defenders are facing the other side.
Thuis-defense - The other way around.
